Velvet Underground
"Velvet Underground"

Released: 1968
This is The Velvet Underground's third album and I could just as easily have picked their first
album. But somehow this one is slightly closer to me. This album is such a contrast compared to
their second album, "White Light/White Heat", which is incredibly noisy. "Velvet Underground" contains really beautiful
songs and is generally a very paced-down record. The exception is "The Murder Mystery", which is
kinda entertaining, but not an actual song. Ah, you know me... I do enjoy some heavy
rock'n'roll occasionally (I love "Helter Skelter" by The Beatles), but it's the tuneful
songs I always return to. And "Velvet Underground" certainly has a great number of really nice
little songs, classics like "Jesus", "Candy Says" and "Pale Blue Eyes". But hey! They're far from
mawkish.
