George Harrison
"All Things Must Pass"

Released: 1970
Poor George Harrison. During the later years of the Beatles' existence
he was really trying to get his songs on the records. I guess that would've
been alright if his songs were crap. But they weren't. The result was that
when the group broke up old George had a chestful of very good songs to
record with Phil Spector producing. And there was enough material for
an excellent trippel-LP. I love the sound of this album. There's
a big, warm sound that probably couldn't have been achieved by anyone
but Spector. Apart from the most obvious track, "My Sweet Lord", there are
a great many favourites here. The elegiac "Isn't It A Pity", for instance.
Or the glorious "Wah-Wah". Or the beautiful, sweeping melody of the title
song...
George hasn't managed to make another LP that's even near as good
as this one, though there's usually a few great tracks on each of his
releases. A good one is "Cloud Nine".
