Cornelis Vreeswijk
"Poem, ballader och lite blues"

Released: 1970
I used to listen to Cornelis Vreeswijk all the time a couple of years ago. Then all of a sudden
everybody listened to him, which is probably why I stopped. Of course, his stuff is truly great
for the most part and I return to his records quite often. This double-album is one of his very
best. It's a bit like The Beatles "White Album" in the sense that it's very varied, which is
clearly announced in its title ("Poems, Ballads and Some Blues"). Well, that's what it is.
This is groovy stuff with good tunes and elaborate lyrics that seem to be taken straight out
of Vreeswijks life. Most of his songs are more or less auto-biographical. It's a pity he died
much too young in 1987...
There's an absolutely congenial album of Vreeswijk singing songs by Carl Michael Bellman (an 18th
century poet and songwriter) called "Spring mot Ulla, spring". Or get "Felicias svenska suite",
another double-album, based on the book "Varulven" ("The Werewolf") by Norwegian writer Axel Sandemose.
