Jakob Hellman
"...och stora havet"

Released: 1989
This album has been voted the best Swedish pop/rock album ever. It's Jakob Hellman's début and to date also his only record. Seems like he only had this one album to offer, but what a record it is! It's full of great, great pop songs, almost all of them dealing with that old boy - girl relationship called love. Heavily influenced by Elvis Costello his lyrics are somewhat difficult to discern unless you have the words written in front of you. And he's got a wonderfully idiosyncratic way of singing with a phrasing that would make Bob Dylan jealous. So this is one of those records where the voice, the lyrics, the tunes and the production make a perfect match. Well, maybe the production is a bit too 1980s, but that's quite alright, I guess. Favourite song: "Avundsjuk pĺ dig".
